TriBeta believes that research is not finished until its results are shared with others. To promote that goal and assist students in learning how to complete the publication process, the society offers its members the unique opportunity to publish their undergraduate work in the pages of its journal, BIOS.

What is BIOS?

BIOS, a quarterly journal of biology and the journal of the Beta Beta Beta Biological Society, has been published since 1930. It has a three-fold purpose: to publish matters that pertain to the affairs of the Society, to publish articles by members, and to publish articles that will be of general interest to biologists. Many distinguished biologists have contributed manuscripts for publication in BIOS, written especially with the undergraduate reader in mind. Subjects covered include articles on current research, developments in biology, biology as a profession, biology education, and articles on graduate and professional training for biologists. Special emphasis is placed on the publication of undergraduate research papers. BIOS is published four times a year: March, May, September, and December.

Graduate or faculty co-authorship or sponsorship is not required; however, a second “by-line” is available for faculty or graduate supervisors. All manuscripts undergo the standard scientific procedure of review, editorial acceptance or rejection, and technical editing.

Submit Your Research

Published research has often won prior awards and the McClung Award recognizes the most outstanding paper published in BIOS each year. To provide a full range of biological topics to its readers, BIOS also carries overviews of graduate research, articles written by faculty and other invited authors, book reviews, and reports from local chapters as well as other society news. The journal is among the collections of libraries worldwide.

Chapter News

Please email chapter news to the BIOS editor (BIOS@tribeta.org).  You will receive back on email a copy of the edited text for your corrections. There is no deadline. The chapter news will be included in the next issue of BIOS. If you have pictures, you should ask the BIOS editor how and where to send them.
